Fundraiser brings 'Hope to Dube Bute'
Emily and Moody Alexander first contacted Glimmer with a vision to do something big soon after bringing home their second Ethiopian son, Eyasu.
We had been looking for an organization to partner with and once we met the Glimmer staff, we knew this was the group doing big work, effective work and sustainable work in Ethiopia.Emily Alexander
The people of Dube Bute welcoming the Alexander Family at the groundbreaking on the projects that will transform this rural village.
What the Alexander team has accomplished is a huge testament to the heart, faith and energy that Moody, Emily and their children have poured into this campaign. In one night, the Alexander team raised over $140,000 to transform the lives of over 4,200 people living in the rural village of Dube Bute. The original fundraising goal for the Alexanders’ Dube Bute campaign included:
- 18 water points
- two school buildings (8 total classrooms)
- 4 latrines
- a health clinic
- a vet clinic
- one bridge
- all necessary equipment and furnishings
The night of the Alexanders’ November fundraiser ended with only one well, one classroom and the vet clinic still needing funding. In the midst of an unbelievable night at the Alexanders’ home in Arlington, Texas, a powerful moment was 11-year-old Grace London singing "Mighty to Save."
Never in our wildest dreams did we think there would be so little left at the end of the event.Emily Alexander
This visionary family’s energy and cause is contagious. They have gotten donations from likely and unlikely places, including strangers, other adoptive families, and even from a couple with a miracle pregnancy that felt led to donate the funds set aside for fertility treatments. Because of the Alexanders, and the broader community that has risen to the call, hope is definitely coming to the remote Ethiopian village of Dube Bute. Follow Emily’s blog ‘Soli Deo Gloria’ to read more about the Alexanders and their friends’ efforts in Ethiopia. Go to their campaign page to join the cause, or read about how it’s growing.
It continues to remind me that we are not in control, that God is and He will provide for ever need of those living in Dube Bute.Emily Alexander
