Though it is only 45 minutes from the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, the rural village of Gadamba feels like it is a world away. With clusters of huts scattered along the side of a small mountain, Gadamba is a conglomerate of small communities. The rugged, hilly terrain makes the agrarian lifestyle of the people very difficult. Despite this, the people work hard to help each other and are always willing to cooperate for a common goal.

Gadamba Need

The greatest need in Gadamba is access to clean, safe drinking water. The people in this village live in clusters of huts along the side of the low mountains. They must walk for hours every day to collect water from small ponds in the low lands. These ponds are full of dirty, stagnant, contaminated water. This water causes illness and death, but it is all that the people have for washing, drinking, and bathing. In Gadamba, the water table is hundreds of feet below the ground. This community needs a deep borehole well to provide water to multiple distribution points around the village. Only this sophisticated technology will be able to ensure sustainable access to clean, fresh water.

Today, the Gadamba deep borehole project provides clean water to nearly 7,000 people in 9 different villages. The reservoir holds over 26,000 gallons of clean and safe drinking water and the generator pumps water through over 5 miles of pipeline. Thanks to your support, these communities now have access to one of the most basic, life changing needs- water.
