Welcome to the "RUNNING FOR HOPE" main campaign page! Our main goal is to inspire friends and family to run/walk to benefit those in the Village of Tercha, a rural town in Southern Ethiopia located in the same region as my sweet niece and nephew, Tigist and Mihiretu. Our secondary goal is to raise funds to help support our "HOPE RUNNERS" - those who have committed to running or walking a race in order to raise money for Tercha!
We hope that by you visiting this page, you can either choose a RUNNER to make a donation to, give some words of advice for those of us who have never run a race before or even decide you want to run yourself! All of which are exactly what we are "hoping" for!!
So far we have commitments for a half-marathon in Santa Barbara on May 7th, a 5K in Central Park NYC on March 12th and a Denver 5K in April. If you know of a race in your area or are looking for one to sign up for, just let me know and I will help you to get all set up. "RUNNING FOR HOPE" will supply you with a cool t-shirt to wear during your race and even build you your own campaign page so you can start to fund-raise yourself! Or if you would like to join either the NYC, Santa Barbara or Denver races, let me know and I will help coordinate. SIDE-NOTE: Anyone who would like to race in Santa Barbara, I will personally help to find you some place to stay while you are here :)
RUNNING FOR HOPE is so thrilled to be partnering with "A Glimmer of Hope" for this cause. If you are not yet familiar, "A Glimmer of Hope" is a non-profit oranization that lifts women and children out of extreme poverty in rural Ethiopia. 100% OF ALL YOUR DONATIONS GO DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE OF ETHIOPIA. That is a staggering percentage as far as charities go! Over the last 10 years, A Glimmer of Hope has improved 2.5 million lives. We hope to help increase that number with YOUR help!
As most of you know, my niece and nephew were adopted from Ethiopia. Through these remarkable children and visits to their country, the Greene family felt an immediate connection and strong desire to help the people of Ethiopia. Last year through the generous efforts of many, they were able to raise money for 7 wells, 4 school buildings, and a health post for the region of Dali. Scott and his brother Jeff visited Ethiopia last year and his brother & Dad went back again in October to witness firsthand the tremendous impact their fundraising (with many of your charitable donations) has had on these people - see the inspiring video below. Be sure to notice Scott's brother and father in the video - amazing!!! I greatly appreciate your support of this campaign.
