Consider these staggering statistics:
* Complications during delivery are a leading cause of death for women in Ethiopia.
* 94% of Ethiopian women go into labor at home without access to a skilled birthing attendant.
* An Ethiopian women has a 1 in 27 chance of dying in her lifetime due to pregnancy or child birth. (compared to 1 in 4,800 for women in the US)
* For every death, 30 other women will develop dibilitating maternal injuries such as fistulas.
Imagine for a moment what it might be like to give birth here...
We have an amazing opportunity to change this for the women in Tercha, Ethiopia - a rural village in southern Ethiopia. Tercha is home to the only hospital in the entire region which serves over 550,000 people. They currently do not have a seperate facility for women giving birth or the resources should any complications occur. What is most horrifying is the hospital does not have access to a constant source of clean water or electricity.
We are teaming up with "A Glimmer of Hope" a fantastic non-profit organization. They have a separate endowment set up to cover all of the overhead expenses, including the credit card fee! This ensures that every single dollar you give will go straight to helping women in Ethiopia. The money raised through this campaign will go directly to funding a maternity ward in rural Ethiopia that is so desperately needed. You will receive updates and pictures once the maternity ward is built so you will get to see exactly how your donations have helped to save lives!
