Families for Ethiopia - Robit
by Kim Owen
In July 2009 our ten families traveled to Ethiopia to meet our newly adopted children for the first time. We were all struck by the great need that exists in Ethiopia and wanted to do something to make a difference. Over and over again we were told that the gift of clean water would be the most valuable way we could honor the home country of our children. During our time in Ethiopia we talked about what we could do if we aligned our efforts but didn't know where to begin. Shortly after returning to our homes across the USA we came across A Glimmer of Hope's web site and knew that with their help we could make a difference.
Since then we have raised over $8600 towards water projects in the Dali area of Ethiopia. Seeing pictures of people halfway across the world getting their first drink of clean water was inspiring. We're raising funds again, this time for a water project in Robit. We hope you will join us in our cause - to bring clean water to the people of Ethiopia - one village, one well, one tapped spring at a time.
A Glimmer of Hope lifts women and children out of extreme poverty in rural Ethiopia. Using an entrepreneurial model developed by the organization, it provides clean water, schools, health clinics and microfinance loans. A full 100% of all donations go directly to funding these projects, more than 4,000 to date. Over the last 10 years, A Glimmer of Hope has improved 2.5 million lives. Through photos, video and GPS coordinates, donors personally experience how their contributions, large and small, are changing lives. By supporting our campaign, you can choose to receive email updates throughout the year on the project we complete together and the lives touched by it. A Glimmer of Hope listens to and partners with communities to build and maintain projects, ensuring sustainability. Recently, founders Donna and Philip Berber were ranked #6 globally on Barron's list of The Best 25 Givers, based on effectiveness and impact. We greatly appreciate your support of this campaign. On behalf of those who lives are forever transformed by your generosity, thank you.
