Austin American-Statesman: Feb. 22, 2006 - Austin Can! Academy received a $25,000 grant Thursday from the Glimmer of Hope Foundation to upgrade the academy's athletic programs.
Two months ago, a fire on an Austin Can! school bus destroyed the bus, as well as much of the school's athletic equipment. Glimmer of Hope's donation will go toward replacing the bus and the equipment.
The Glimmer of Hope Foundation supports grass-roots projects that work to improve the lives of low-income youth in East and South Austin. The Austin Can! Academy is an affiliate of Texans Can!, a charter school network serving at-risk students statewide.
