Integrated Development is a strategy that holistically and synergistically combines a number of programs and projects in order to create sustainable development within a targeted community. It combines a number of key elements or interventions that are required to help rural poor communities lift themselves out of poverty on a sustainable basis. The three key elements can be described as humanitarian, development and enterprise programs.
| Humanitarian: | Reflects the basic human need for – and right to – clean drinking water. A Glimmer of Hope constructs three types of Water projects: hand-dug wells, spring protection schemes and bore holes. To date, it has funded more than 2,000 water initiatives throughout Ethiopia |
| Development: | Refers to Health Care and Education. The foundation has completed a major hospital rehabilitation project and built more than 130 clinics. Education is a key to breaking the cycle of poverty and A Glimmer of Hope has funded over 200 education projects (schools, classrooms, educational materials, furnishings, etc.). |
| Enterprise: | Refers to Income Generation and Micro-finance programs that provide a hand up to farmers, women and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to lift themselves out of poverty by way of agricultural and entrepreneurial income creation programs. |
