TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:

  • Outgoing Flight Tuesday, May 22nd – Wednesday, May 23rd:
  •  
    • Emirates flight 204 – departs JFK at 11:20 am on May 22nd and arrives in Dubai at 7:50 am on the 23rd 
    • Emirates flight 723 – departs Dubai at 10:30 am on May 23rd and arrives in Addis Ababa at 1:30 pm on the 23rd
  • May 23rd
  •  
    • Check into hotel of your choice (Hilton, Sheraton, or Radisson Blu) and relax for the remainder of the afternoon
  • May 24th
  •  
    • Take an early flight to Gondar and drive directly to Robit from the airport (approximately 75 minute drive)
    • Return to Gondar by late afternoon and check into the Goha Hotel 
  • May 25th
  •  
    • In the morning visit the 17th Century Gondar Castle in the heart of the city, then walk to the open-air market next to the castle
    • At noon, depart for Simien Mountain Lodge (approximately 3 hour drive)
    • Enjoy hiking in the area around the lodge until sunset
  • May 26th
  •  
    • In the morning drive throughout the Simien Mountain National Park, with stops for hikes along the way
    • Return to Goha Hotel by sunset
  • May 27th
  •  
    • Fly from Gondar to Axum, historical city in Tigray region, in the morning (approximately 45 minute direct flight)
    • Explore Axum in the morning and have an early lunch at the Yeha Hotel
    • After lunch, drive to the Gheralta Lodge in time for sunset (approximately 4 hour drive)
  • May 28th

    • Hike around the Gheralta Lodge in the morning and have lunch at the Lodge
    • Drive to Mekelle, capital of Tigray, (approximately 90 mile drive) and stop at a rock-hewn church on the way
    • Spend the night at the Axum Hotel in Mekelle
  • May 29th

    • Drive from Mekelle to Senale, in Hintalo Wajirat district of Tigray region, (approximately 2.5 hour drive)
    • Full day of visiting projects completed in fall of 2011/ first quarter of 2012 as part of Glimmer's flagship integrated community development program
  • May 30th

    • Drive from Mekelle to adjacent villages within the Senale cluster area to view the need in villages where Glimmer will implement additional projects in the fall of 2012
    • Return to Mekelle by sunset
  • May 31st
  •  
    • Drive from Mekelle to Lalibela in the morning (approximately 6 hour drive)
    • Check into Mountain View Hotel (www.mountainsviewhotel.com) upon arrival and rest for the remainder of the afternoon
    • OPTION: Natalie flies from Mekelle to Addis Ababa in the morning

      • Fly to NYC on Emirates flight departing Addis Ababa at 4:10 pm

    • Full day of visiting historic sites in Lalibela

    • Fly from Lalibela back to Addis Ababa – departing at 10:05 am and arriving in Addis Ababa at 11:10 am
    • OPTION 1: Check into a hotel of your choice and spend the afternoon relaxing (suggest getting a good massage or visiting the largest open-air market in Africa)
    • OPTION 2: Join Eric and drive from airport in Addis Ababa to Wuchale district to visit Kenna's shallow borehole projects to shoot video footage for a donor update (approximately 2.5 hour drive)
  • Return Flight: Sunday, June 3rd – Monday, June 4th
  •  
    • Emirates flight 724 – departs Addis Ababa at 4:10 pm on June 3rd and arrives in Dubai at 9:20 pm on June 3rd
    • Spend the night in Dubai (either at the hotel in the terminal or a hotel of your choice in town)
    • Emirates flight 211 – departs Dubai at 9:05 am on June 4th and arrives in Houston at 4:25 pm on June 4th

      • The return flights through Houston work better than the NYC route

Video Editor Intern

Want to mature as a video editor, strengthen your portfolio, and use your storytelling skills to help change the world? Glimmer is looking for a Video Editor Intern who will assist in editing content for a variety of general videos to help build our brand, and personalized videos for our donors. There may also be opportunities to shoot short videos. You will focus on telling stories that will engage and educate the public and our donors through the videos you help create.

position:

  • work with our team to storyboard and create stories that change the lives of thousands in Sub-Sahara Africa
  • edit video content, including music and footage from Ethiopia, to create engaging videos
  • handy with footage from multiple formats, including traditional video camera, DSLRs and iphone
  • skillful with color grading to drive consistency between different footage sources
  • knowledgeable about selecting and securing music licenses to help tell the story
  • shoot footage of interviews and activities in the Austin office, a plus
  • basic photo editing and graphic design skills, a plus

Digital Marketing Intern

Glimmer is looking for a Digital Marketing Intern who will assist in a variety of online marketing projects, campaigns and research opportunities. You will focus on developing ways to engage and educate the public and our donors through a variety of content. You will help build our brand.

  • rally our supporters by creating engaging content for blogs, newsletters and social media
  • creatively distribute messaging and marketing campaigns to build brand
  • identify blogs and social media sites and creatively distribute content to increase product sales and build brand awareness
  • conduct market research on successful marketing tactics
  • copywriter extraordinaire, photo editing and graphic design skills, a plus
